- Exercising for happiness 0- increases bloodflow & endorphin effect
- Say No, if overwhelmed - 'don't take on other's monkey's'
- Have a positive mental attitude - outlook is key to level of happiness
- Learn from children - they laugh more - let yourself go - surrender to higher power (God / Kosmos)
- Live in the moment - happiness comes from engaging your sensations in the present moment - living for now! eg. Bungee jump
- Don't be envious - causes depression - keeping up with the Jones'
- Take part in leisure interests - preferably in groups eg. Salsa / Line Dancing
- Excitement can come from fear eg. Rollercoaster ride / horror film (adrenaline, dopamine)
- Some people enjoy tragic opera - weeping happily
- Crying helps relief tension & stress
- Sunshine makes people more happy
- Learn to laugh at yourself - look how God plays with us! eg. can't live with ... can live without ...
- Turn a tragic situation into a funny one. Its all a matter of perspective.
- Comedy - looking at every day things from different perspective, taking things literally
- always look on the bright side of life
- Project a picture of yourself like you'd like to be in future / look at past moment when happy
- Happiness - be sensual - like a sponge - let things imprint on your psyche. feel in wonder / awe / enchanter
- love job - do what you love or love what you do
- love self - have to be happy with self first then help others
- be ready to receive love
- Cultivate compassion - be aware that others are fundamentally the same as you (underneath skin / culture) - be aware of other's background before criticizing / judging
- Be honest & open with self & others
- Have respect for self & others
- Accept yourself & others - accept your looks, intelligence, emotions, actions
- Forgive yourself & others - holding resentment, anger & hatred mainly affects yourself
- Be thankful for what you have, appreciating what you have increases inner satisfaction
- Mix with people similar to yourself - similar values
- Know your self worth - be independent of the good opinion of others!! but be respectful & kind
- Be honest but sensitive to others
- Enjoy & commune with nature
- practise solitude, silence, not doing anything in particular
- meditate & be mindful.
- Do something with full attention, not 3 things at once.
- Cultivate peaceful states, get rid of destructive states of mind (anger, fear, jealousy, doubt, envy, hate etc.)
- practise non - judgement, know the similarities and background of others before criticising
- don't look externally for happiness - dissolve ego. Have inner reference point - self-referall.
- Don't compare self to others, or if you do, compare self to you in a worse situation eg. blind, after an accident (don't feel arrogant or superior)
- be happy that you are alive, breathing, thinking, doing, being. 1 million people around the world will die this week (including many babies & infants)
- be happy that you can read, write and speak - others are deaf, blind & dumb
- be happy that you've got access to a computer - others have never seen a TV
- be happy that you have a home - others live on the streets
- Don't be mischevious, greedy, arrogant, - they lead to unhappiness
- Don't steal, kill or harm others - leads to unstable mind
- Be good to others, be happy in helping iothers -studies show that volunteering reliefs physical & emotional & mental tension
